The Main Highlights of an East Bali Tour

The Main Highlights of an East Bali Tour

East Bali Tour is a popular full-day sightseeing itinerary focused on the Karangasem regency of Bali. This tour is highly sought after by travelers looking for a mix of majestic "Instagram-famous" mountain temples, serene royal water palaces, and historical heritage, all set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Agung (Bali's highest and most sacred volcano).

Unlike the bustling center of Ubud or the beach clubs of the south, East Bali offers a more laid-back, traditional, and mystical atmosphere.

The Main Highlights of an East Bali Tour

Most standard day tours to East Bali feature a selection of the following iconic landmarks:

1. Pura Lempuyang (The "Gates of Heaven")

This is one of Bali’s oldest and most highly regarded directional temples. It is globally famous for its towering white split-gate that perfectly frames Mount Agung in the background. Visitors flock here early in the morning to capture the iconic photo that looks like walking through a portal into the clouds.

2. Tirta Gangga Water Palace

A stunning, 1.2-hectare royal water garden built in 1946 by the late King of Karangasem. It features beautiful maze-like swimming pools, ornate stone statues, fountains, and stepping stones laid out across large ponds filled with giant, colorful koi fish.

3. Taman Ujung Water Palace (Sukasada Park)

Another beautiful royal heritage site closer to the coast. It combines Balinese, Chinese, and European architecture across large expansive bridges, stone pillars, and floating pavilions. It is less crowded than Tirta Gangga and offers panoramic ocean and mountain views from its highest ridge.

4. Virgin Beach (Karangasem)

A hidden gem tucked away between two high cliffs. Unlike the black volcanic sand found in most of East Bali, Virgin Beach boasts soft, white sand and turquoise waters, making it an excellent spot to relax, swim, and enjoy fresh grilled seafood at local beach huts.

💡 Tour Logistics & Quick Tips

  • Distance: East Bali is quite far from the popular tourist hubs. A drive from Seminyak, Kuta, or Sanur takes about 2 to 2.5 hours each way. From Ubud, it takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.

  • Start Early: Most East Bali tours begin between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This is crucial if you want to visit Pura Lempuyang, as queue times for the famous photo can get incredibly long later in the day.

  • Dress Code: Because you will be visiting highly sacred temples like Lempuyang, covering your shoulders and wearing a traditional sarong (which can usually be rented at the entrance) is strictly required.
